Chapter 22

Will was grateful when the cherub showed up the next morning, he didn’t have to trek through the snow back out to that clearing. The frigid cold didn’t seem to bother the cherub, Lilith, or her children when they were out there, but it chilled Will to the bone unless he was holding the flame. Zeke had given him better shoes after the first day when he came back in with wet shoes and purple toes, but it was still much colder out there than any New York winter.

The cherub allowed this lesson in the living room on Zeke’s huge, comfortable couch. She seemed to know what happened when the two of them just snuggled and she ordered Lilith as close to him as possible. Will knew the only reason she actually obeyed her was because it was to help him. If she didn’t love him, she probably would have just laughed in the cherub’s face. Will knew she wouldn’t even be here if not for him.

Both Nate and Zeke looked uncomfortable at the vibes Will was sending out and ended up leaving the room. The cherub didn’t seem affected by Will or Lilith like everyone else seemed to be. Will eyed her curiously, but Lilith seemed to expect it.

The cherub rolled her eyes at Will like not everyone was powerless against his Incubus side. “You see a female when you look at me, but I am sexless and immune to both of you when you are sending that out. I’m immune to most of the emotions demons feed off of unless Lilith decides to drink my blood like a savage.”

“And listen to you complain about it? I’m good over here,” Lilith threw back.

“Can I teach the boy now instead of flinging insults with you? Samael and the others will be back tomorrow and they know nothing about being Grigori.”

“How do you if you didn’t even get a name?” Will asked.

The cherub looked totally irritated with him like he should be learning instead of asking what she thought was a stupid question. “The cherubs are teachers, watchers, guardians. We are vast. We are not concerned with trivial things like names. Now concentrate and stop asking ignorant, human questions.”

Lilith had taught him to use his demon blood and the cherub finally guided him on how to wield the flame. Will was wondering if this cherub knew and taught his father as she started spilling all of Shamyaza’s dirty little secrets, even from way before Will was born and he was still just Grigori and not fallen.

Will was starting to think there was way more to this than anyone was telling him when the cherub informed him they suspected his father of lusting after some of the human women he was watching over. Just because he was having impure thoughts, Samael tempted Shamyaza like he did humans. Will pulled away from the comforting feeling he was getting from Lilith. For the first time since all this started, he was actually upset and felt betrayed by her.
